The Museum of the Dog

Rufus sent me note about The Museum of The Dog in St. Louis.

Mommy,
Did Elsa tell you that we visited the American Kennel Club's Museum of the Dog when we were in St. Louis last weekend?
I think the best part was that they had Milk Bone biscuits at the front desk and that they allow dogs. I think it would be horrible if The Museum of the Dog didn't allow dogs to visit. Don't you? Well anyway they do. So don't worry.
My favorite thing in the museum was the poster from The Shaggy Dog movie. Probably cause I'm a shaggy dog.

I also liked all the antique dog show ribbons that they had on display. They just don't make ribbons like that anymore. I really think they should.

The other thing that really caught my eye were the old. elaborate dog collars. Some of them looked kinda scary and very heavy. They were neat objects, but I think I'll stick with my rolled-leather collar. Some of the collars were used for something called bear baiting. It sounds like bear bating was some inhumane practice. I'm not going to go into it here. It makes me too sad. But, it involved a bear tied to a chain and dogs trained to hunt. So creepy!

The museum also had posters of dogs trained for combat. That made me sad too.
The rest of the museum was mainly paintings and figurines of dogs. No Tibetan Terriers though. That was kinda lame. And, just between you and me, the gift shop was totally ghetto!
We are now back in Iowa and doing well.

Missing you.
Rufus

He's a Bad Mama Jama

He's a bad mama jama
Just as fine as he can be, hey
He's a bad mama jama
Just as fine as he can be

His body measurements are perfect in every dimension
He's got a figure that's sho' 'nuff gettin' attention
He's poetry in motion, a beautiful sight to see
I get so excited viewin' his anatomy

The lyrics to He's a Bad Mama Jama keep running through my head since I received a note from my little Elsa.

Dear Momma,

Rufus and I took a trip to St. Louis this past weekend to compete in 3-day dog show at Purina Farms. It was a new adventure. We stayed in a hotel and that was really fun. Lots of comfy pillows. And, oh yeah, the hotel had this thing called an elevator. Rufus and I had never seen or been on an elevator before. We got the hang of it right away.

Each day we got up early and dad took us to Purina Farms. We spent the best part of each day there because Rufus won Best of Breed all 3 days and that meant we had to stay around for the non-sporting group competition at the end of each day. Rufus was the only puppy that made it to the group competition. He looked like a dream out in the ring. Each of the judges, Steve Hayden, John Madieros, and Ruth Zimmerman commented on how nice he was. I did pretty well myself, but I don't like to toot my own horn. You taught me better than that.

In between the breed judging and the group competition we mostly slept in the car. Rufus hung out on the grooming table. I tried to get him to play, but he was feeling pretty serious.

I did meet this one gal who was showing her Yorkie. Both she and her Yorkie had red ribbons in their hair. I don't know why dad and I can't showboat like that.

One day, after the dog show, dad took us to the American Kennel Club's Museum of the Dog. Yup, it's in St. Louis. It was pretty cool. I will write and tell you about it very soon.

Rufus and I send you all our love,

Happy Mother's Day,
Elsa

Pandy

My little girl Pandy sent me a note to let me know that no one claimed that sweet lost TT boy who was found in Santa Ana, California last week. The woman who found him loves him so much she invited him to stay with her forever. That makes me feel better.

Pandy also let me know she is going to be in a dog show at the end of this month and sent the photo above. Looking good Pandy! I LOVE YOU!

Palm Beach Pups

I was going through my old pics and I found these of our trip to Palm Beach last year. We went to the beach and outdoor cafes and lived the life!

We caused quite a stir on Worth Avenue. One couple, owners of a fancy jewelry shop, wanted to barter for one of my next pups. A Rolex for a TT? I don't think so. People were literally pouring out of the shops and onto the streets to fawn over us. Retail sales fell dramatically that day.

We had lunch with the ladies (and men) who lunch at a quaint outdoor courtyard cafe. I must admit that we nearly toppled our table when we got a bit overexcited when a Dachshund entered the scene. One women in a very pretty hat (and just a bit of plastic surgery) told us that she had five dogs at home.

Roxie also took Best of Opposite Sex at the Palm Beach International Dog Show. Sugar on our strawberries!

Tibetan Terrier Found in Santa Ana, CA

I received this distressing note from Toby and Pandy.

Suddie,
I thought you might be able to help with this situation. We just heard that a TT was found in Santa Ana, CA and they can't find the owner. But with your wide range of friends, maybe someone will know who the owner is. He is a beautiful boy and looks well taken care of. It is such a shame that he can't be reunited with his owner. Please help if you can.
We both send you our Love and Keep up the good work. We enjoy hearing about all your adventures. You sure do get around girl.
Pandy and Toby

This Tibetan Terrier was found in Santa Ana, CA and is between 18 months and 2 years old - The woman has had him for three weeks searching for his owner and he is scheduled to be neutered on Friday. I wanted to check with all of you to see if anyone is missing a TT or if any of your puppy buyers is missing one.

Please contact me if you have any information: deepacresfarm@mac.com

Sadie

I received a note from my pup Sadie. Sadie is from my first litter and she lives with Grammy Jill. The pic below is Sadie in the boots Grammy makes her wear in the winter.

Dear Momma,
I was pretty bummed last week when my human Mom left for Ann Arbor (her oldest granddaughter graduated from Univ of MI on Sat--I guess she must be real smart) but it worked out alright--Dad took me up to the golf club on Fri. nite and we sat out on the patio with friends and I got lots of attention.--he didn't offer me any of his beer tho'!
I'm really excited about you and my bro and sister coming here memorial w/e but a little worried that Angus and Roxie won't be able to get dirty because of being in a dog show but @ least I'll get you to myself for a while--we'll be swimming the lake while they're stuck in a show ring-- some new dog parks have opened up in our area maybe we can check them out?
In closing, I want to tell you thanks for placing me with your Dad's Mom--I can tell she really loves me and I know I've got it good here.
Your loving daughter,
Sadie "Sweetpea"

Bad Dog Frida

So the other day I was in Madison, Wisconsin and I happened upon this really cool store called BAD DOG FRIDA. They have all sorts of rad things for dogs like me. Like these awesome dog portrait magnets painted by a local artist. They would be great for your fridge or what not. The painting above is from one of the magnets. I think it just may be a TT. Don't you? The artist also does commissions from photos of your pooch. Pretty fantastic!

The store is in this cool area of Madison where there are lots of nifty little shops and restaurants including a great local chocolate shop just two doors down. "Two doors down they're laughing and singing and eating chocolate. Two doors down they don't know that I'm around." My dad tried a sea salt caramel and a coconut chocolate. This was after he had a vegetarian (I think it was seitan) not-B LT sandwich and a great big homemade biscuit with honey at the diner across the street. I think we could spend a lifetime is this neighborhood and be VERY HAPPY.

Anyway, Frida's is a really spectacular store with a so many great things for dogs like me that my head was spinning. The owner, Carmen, is way cool too. Not only does she select great things that appeal to dogs like me, she also plans all sorts of cool events. Like right now, she is holding a pet photo contest. Where you can bring or send in your favorite dog photo. Carmen posts them in the window and people vote on them. There IS a prize involved!

Carmen told me about two of her customers that just happen to be Tibetan Terriers. First, there is Phoebe who is ANCIENT. I think she is like sixteen or something. Anytime Phoebe's parents think she might be about to give up the ghost, they put here in the car and off they go to BAD DOG FRIDAS. It's like a test or health check or something. They know if Phoebe gets excited when they arrive at BAD DOG FRIDAS, she is OK and retains a bit of her youthful zestiness. I heard tell that last time, she hurdled a few bushes in her path. YOU GO GIRL! Here's wishing you many more trips to BAD DOG FRIDAS.

I was also told about Scout. Scout is a little puppy TT and he sure is cute. He is featured on BAD DOG FRIDA's Facebook page sampling several delectable items from BAD DOG FRIDAS. I am now friend's with Scout's mom on Facebook. It's such a small TT world. It's a small, small world.

It's a world of laughter, a world or tears
It's a world of hopes, it's a world of fear
There's so much that we share
That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all
